António Brandão Vasconcelos, who graduated in Electrical Engineering from Técnico (1976), began his professional career at the IT Institute of the Ministry of Finance, and worked for IBM, Fujitsu and DRM Consulting.

Founder of NTT Data Portugal (ex Everis), in 1999, which he led for over 15 years having assumed the position of Chairman until December 2020.

In collaboration with Técnico, with which he has always maintained a close relationship, he launched in 2014/2015 the iLLP@Técnico -Innovation Lean LaunchPad, the acceleration programme today known as Lab2Market@Tecnico.

The António Brandão Vasconcelos award, thus comes in a tribute to the founder of Lab2Market, whom we thank for his vision in the future and who always highlighted the importance and need to foster the exchange between those who research and the market.

The António Brandão Vasconcelos Award aims to reward the most outstanding team within the Lab2Market@Técnico program, which, with the support of NTT Data Portugal and i-Deals, aims to identify and support the path to market of projects and technologies developed by researchers, teachers, and students of Instituto Superior Técnico.

Candidates

All researchers, teachers and students of Instituto Superior Técnico who participated in the edition 2023 of Lab2market@Técnico are candidates.
It is a condition of participation the express acceptance of the terms and conditions foreseen in the regulations of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Awards Competition of Instituto Superior Técnico (I&E@Técnico).
Selection

The “António Brandão Vasconcelos” prize will be awarded by the jury to the team that stands out the most throughout the programme.

The winning team will be announced at the final event of the programme.

Jury for the “António Brandão Vasconcelos” award

• a member appointed by NTT Data;
• a professor from IST with a connection to Entrepreneurship who will be the president of the jury
• an external guest with an outstanding track record in innovation and entrepreneurship (invited only for the final pitch and for the “António Brandão Vasconcelos” award ceremony).

The jury’s decisions are not subject to appeal or complaint.

Evaluation Criteria

For the “António Brandão Vasconcelos” award, the jury’s evaluation will be based on the following criteria

• Commitment and competence of the team throughout the programme;
• Evolution throughout the programme: Quality and effectiveness of the presentations and exposure of the Technology to third parties;
• Future prospects of technology transfer to the market.

Award

In this edition, the project selected by the jury will be awarded the “António Brandão Vasconcelos Prize” in the amount of EUR 3,500.00 (three thousand and five hundred euros).
