Call for investment opportunities for ISTART I

There is an ongoing call for investment opportunities for the venture capital fund ISTART I. Applications for investment proposals of up to € 300,000 are open until November 16, 2012 and the promoters may request a preliminary assessment by submitting a pre-application until October 26, 2012.

The ISTART I venture fund was promoted by IST in order to fund entrepreneurs from IST and other higher education instutions and it has a capital of €300,000. The fund is managed by Espírito Santo Ventures and its investors are: Brisa, Caixa Capital, Novabase Capital, Grupo Espírito Santo and Taguspark.

This call for investment opportunities for the ISTART I fund, aims at:
  • finance the transition of projects from a context of scientific research and development to a business environment that maximizes its potential economic value and the associated knowledge and scientific work;
  • extend the career prospects of students, researchers and professors interested in technology transfer from the university to the industry.

Priority will be given to projects that combine technological knowledge and technology excellence with the resolution of global problems of high economic value.
