IP Talks: New cycle starts on 16 October

From the first idea to a published paper or a prototype, decisions in Intellectual Property (IP) determine what can be shared, funded, and transferred. Understanding IP early helps avoid risks and create opportunities (patents, software licensing, collaboration, impact), whether the work involves code, algorithms, data, or devices.

For the 2025/2026 academic year, we prepared an IP Talks series designed to support R&D projects at Técnico: concise lunchtime sessions, practical content, academic case examples, and time for Q and A. The goal is to help decide when to publish, what to protect, and how to position results throughout the academic journey.

New cycle starts on 16 October
The IP Talks 2025/2026 cycle begins on 16 October 2025 (12:00–2:00 pm) with a general session.

IP Talks #1 – Understanding IP and Procedures at Técnico
The session provides an overview of Intellectual Property, with an introduction to Industrial Property and Copyright, focusing on invention protection and procedures at IST.

Speaker: Antonieta Ribeiro, Coordinator of the Intellectual Property Unit, Técnico
Venue: iStartLab Q01, Alameda Campus

Registration: http://ist.pt/IPTalks_2526

Free lunchbox for the first 25 to check in on site.

How it works
IP Talks are informal lunchtime sessions (12:00–2:00 pm) organized by the Intellectual Property Unit of Técnico’s Technology Transfer Office (TT@Técnico), open to the academic community (researchers, teaching staff, PhD students, and all those interested in IP).

Next sessions
The program will continue over the coming months with themed sessions (for example, software and computer-implemented inventions, patent search/state of the art, patentability by fields, among others). Further communications will follow.
