Técnico and Huawei sign cooperation agreement to promote telecommunications
On September 12, Instituto Superior Técnico e a Huawei formalized the signing of a new agreement under the InTele Cooperation Protocol – An Initiative for Telecommunications. The aim is to strengthen the attractiveness of the telecommunications field among students and improve the conditions of their academic journey.
During the ceremony, Rogério Colaço, President of Instituto Superior Técnico, highlighted that such partnerships are “a way of opening Técnico to society […] and creating added value,” recalling the ongoing collaboration with Huawei in Portugal since 2004. Luís Correia, professor in the scientific area of telecommunications, reinforced this perspective, stressing that the goal is to provide “more attractive conditions for telecommunications students.”
Wu Hao, CEO of Huawei Portugal, was also present, stating it was “an honor” to be at Técnico and emphasizing that participation in “initiatives and activities” such as this is a way to “help Portugal, especially the universities.”
Huawei’s collaboration with the InTele Protocol dates back to May 2022 and is materialized through the award of a Merit Prize to the best student of the Master’s in Telecommunications and Informatics Engineering, as well as the granting of Scholarships to support master’s dissertations. This partnership follows an earlier agreement signed in 2019, also dedicated to supporting the training of telecommunications engineers.
