NTT DATA Merit Award in Machine Learning
NTT DATA annually awards an academic merit award to the best team of the C.U Machine Learning of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
Target audience and application conditions
In the 2024/2025 edition, the candidates for the NTT Data Merit Award in Machine Learning will be groups of two Técnico students enrolled in the Machine Learning unit who express an interest in competing for the award by filling in a simple form on the course page.
Assignment Criteria
- 1. Students will be graded according to their performance on the project (one of the homework assignments) assigned for this purpose. The ranking consists of:
i) a first assessment phase which will focus on a practical challenge of acquiring knowledge from a set of data, set in one of the homework assignments;
ii) a second phase that will include a short final public presentation (5 minutes), which should focus on the learning principles explored in the practical challenge, as well as a short discussion (5 minute Q&A) of the results obtained and the main implications. - 2. The assessment of the project (one of the homework assignments), in both phases, will focus on the following parameters:
a) understanding of the challenge;
b) ability to adequately apply and extend the learning techniques used in the unit to answer the challenge;
c) degree of innovation; quality of written/oral communication;
d) Accuracy and relevance of the results obtained
3. Only the groups with the best ranking in the first phase, up to a maximum of 10 groups, will be considered eligible to progress to the second phase of the award.
4. Eligible for this award are students who, in addition to the successful completion of the homework, and both have a mark of of more than 10 marks in one of the two examinations in the discipline.
5. In the event of a tie, for the descending ranking of the teams that will go through to the second phase, the average final mark of the two exams will be taken into account (to the nearest hundredth) of the members of the group will be taken into account.
6. The students in the selected group can only benefit from the funding of 1 (one) merit prize awarded for similar initiatives in the same academic year.
Prize
- Monetary prize, to be given to Student, amounting to € 2.500 (two thousand and fifty hundred euros);
- Donation for the improvement of the education quality, in the amount of € 1.670(one thousand and sixty hundred and seventy euros).
Jury
The jury must be composed of more than one Técnico member, so that they have a majority of the votes.
