From an Idea in 2009 to a Community of Founders

Founded in November 2009, the Técnico Spin-Off Community® was created to strengthen the connection between Instituto Superior Técnico and technology-based companies rooted in its community, fostering closer ties between academia and entrepreneurship.

From the outset, the initiative has encouraged students, faculty members, and researchers to transform knowledge into businesses, contributing to the development of solutions with real-world impact.

Over the years, the community has grown alongside the evolution of the entrepreneurial ecosystem and the emergence of new generations of founders connected to Técnico.

In 2026, the community took a new strategic step by restructuring its membership process, introducing clearer eligibility criteria and a model better aligned with the diversity of companies within the community.

This marks the beginning of a new chapter—more open, more dynamic, and more connected.
