Técnico students and NOS collaborators join together in a co-creation workshop

The collaborative session involved about fifteen Técnico students and six NOS collaborators with the aim of finding solutions to real and current problems.

Several Técnico students and NOS collaborators joined together in a co-creation workshop last April 11, at Técnico – Alameda campus, in the ISTart Lab room. The workshop was led by Luís Caldas de Oliveira, Técnico professor and deputy director of the Técnico Innovation Laboratory (iSTartLab), and Diogo Henriques, member of the ISTart Lab team. The participants were divided into four tables, each comprising about three students and one NOS employee. The session began with a brief presentation of the workshop and its objectives and the TecInnov programme – a Competition to Support the Development of Innovative Ideas.

The session included a casual game so that all participants could get to know each other a little better, and a more detailed presentation of the workshop and the session: divided into four teams, students and NOS employees would have to find solutions to four major challenges presented by the telecommunications company.

Workshop brings together Técnico Research Centres and Galp to search sustainable energy solutions

Técnico researchers and Galp experts presented proposals and innovation projects in the field of renewable energy.

The Técnico-Galp workshop, held on March 31st, brought together Técnico researchers and NOS collaborators, who presented research and development (R&D) projects in the area of renewable energy.

Hugo Morais, researcher at the Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores, Investigação e Desenvolvimento (INESC-ID), presented the “Smart Storage Open Platform” and shared the “Electric Vehicles Management Strategies” as well as the latest trends in the hydraulic energy sector. Marta Martins, researcher at the Center of Physics and Engineering of Advanced Materials (CeFEMA), explained that CeFEMA researchers focus their work on conductive materials. The projects carried out at the Center for Computational and Stochastic Mathematics (CEMAT) approach renewable energy from a mathematical perspective, as highlighted by Cláudia Nunes.

Santander Foundation awards Técnico students and student groups

This Tuesday, March 28, the Santander Foundation awarded several scholarships to Técnico students and student groups.

The Santander Foundation awarded several Técnico students, student groups, professors and researchers at a ceremony held on March 28, Alameda campus.

The President of Técnico, professor Rogério Colaço, highlighted the “successful long-lasting” partnership with Santander. Rogério Colaço also stressed the support provided by Santander during the pandemic, namely the preparation of kits.

“This ceremony is very important because it marks the joint work” that has been done, said engineer Marcos Ribeiro, from Santander.

The first scholarships awarded were the PAX-IAX scholarships, which provide support to partial sabbatical leaves abroad for Assistant Professors and Auxiliary Researchers at Técnico, on their tenure-track period. Professor João Ramôa Correia, the coordinator of Técnico’s Mentoring Programme, highlighted the importance of these scholarships at the beginning of the faculty’s early career. Fábio Fernandes, professor at the Department of Bioengineering, also underlined the importance of scholarships and shared his personal experience at Prague University.

Técnico students get together for a “tech battle”

The “Tech Battle Celfocus” included an innovative battle of ideas on key technological challenges.

On March 7, about twenty Técnico students got together in the Civil Engineering Building, at Alameda campus, for a real tech battle. The “Tech Battle Celfocus” is an initiative powered by Celfocus, a technology company member of Técnico Partner Network, in collaboration with the Computer Science and Engineering Student Group at Instituto Superior Técnico (NEIIST). The event was held for the first time at Técnico and included an innovative idea: a battle of ideas based on three different topics related to technology and programming, between two groups of enthusiasts, who shared their views and opinions on key technological challenges with the audience.

Alumni Talks Women Edition marks the 8th of March

The Alumni Talks – International Women’s Day Special Edition took place on 8th March at Alameda Campus. The alumnae and current students shared some experiences before the event started. “I entered the job market about two and a half years ago thanks to Pitch Bootcamp“, said  Madalena Perloiro, Técnico alumna (Industrial Engineering and Management) and Logistics Efficiency and Supply Chain Manager at Jerónimo Martins, talking with some of the participants.

At the beginning of the session, the President of Técnico, professor Rogério Colaço, said “there is a common trait in female engineers, which is courage and character strength”, and then he stressed the upward trend of women at Técnico that has been observed for some years.

BCG and Técnico Partner Network renew protocol

The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and the Técnico Partner Network renewed their protocol on January 20.

“BCG was one of the first companies to join the Técnico Partner Network”, said the Vice President of Técnico for Operations and Corporate Relationships, professor Pedro Amaral, at the beginning of the session.

The President of Técnico, professor Rogério Colaço, thanked BCG for their support and for trusting in Técnico “a protocol renewal is much more important than the protocol signature”. Rogério Colaço also stressed the importance of the Técnico Partner Network.

Axians joins the Técnico Partner Network

Axians officially joined the Técnico Partner Network last Wednesday, February 1st. The ceremony took place at the Faraday Museum, in Instituto Superior Técnico.

The company will be involved in the IST job fair (Job Shop), organised by AEIST, in outreach activities between students and companies (talent search meeting), as well as the development of more and better talent, with an emphasis on support for a learning space, specifically one of the largest laboratories of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Galp is the new member of Técnico Partner Network

Galp joined the Técnico Partner Network this Tuesday, December 20. The signing ceremony took place at Instituto Superior Técnico.

The Vice-President of Técnico for Operations and Corporate Relationships, professor Pedro Amaral, stressed “it is an honour that Galp has joined our partner network”.

“This is an important protocol for Técnico and for all of us”, said the President of Técnico, professor Rogério Colaço, who also highlighted that this partnership will allow Galp to support the student groups and laboratories. “The Técnico Partner Network is a stepping stone to our mission, which is to create value for the country”, he added.

CISCO rewards Técnico student

The 2021/2022 Cisco Merit Award in Networks and Internet Services was delivered this Friday, 16th December to Nuno Martins, the best student in Networks and Internet Services Curricular Unit (MSc Programme in Electrical and Computer Engineering).

“Building strategic partnerships is very important for Técnico”, said the President of Técnico, professor Rogério Colaço. “It makes no sense that an institution like Técnico has its doors closed”, he added. Rogério Colaço ended his speech stressing “awards motivate students and professors, and help to improve the teaching and learning conditions”.

Industrial Engineering and Management students win Worten Merit Award

Last Wednesday, 14th December, the Industrial Engineering and Management MSc students, presented their project within the scope of the Warehouse and Materials Management Curricular Unit, at the 2nd edition of the Worten Merit Award 2022/2023.

Alexander Stole, Inês Madeira Ferreira, Klara Cecilia Lundgren, Régis Jean François Malpas and Sandra Lisa Mailda Lindgren created a project that focuses on optimising the online order preparation process, with the aim of increasing its efficiency by reducing the number of errors and order processing time. This project stems from the group’s observation and analysis of the logistics of a warehouse, which identified gaps in the online order preparation process.
