Técnico students receive Feedzai scholarships Women in Science

Estudantes do Técnico recebem bolsas Feedzai para mulheres na Ciência

Last Friday, November 4, the Portuguese technology company Feedzai awarded four scholarships to Técnico female students (MSc and PhD). The award ceremony took place at the company’s headquarters.

This is the first edition of the Feedzai Scholarships Women in Science, which aims to support the studies of Técnico female students enrolled in MSc and PhD programmes. The awarded students were: Ana Gutiérrez; Isabel Portugal; Maria Osório and Mariana Lima. “This award is an opportunity to value women’s work”, said Mariana Lima, aerospace engineering student.

Web Summit 2022

May be an image of one or more people Since the arrival of the Web Summit in Portugal, the presence of the Instituto Superior Técnico in this summit, to a more or less extensive extent, has been a constant. Whether through the students who volunteer, or through (former) entrepreneurial students with their companies or on behalf of their employers, or through a massive mobilization of the Técnico community or the presence with an official bank, the Técnico community is present in this great event that highlights and promotes technology-based entrepreneurship.

The year 2022 is marked by yet another presence of the Técnico community, highlighting 22 startups whose (at least) one of the founders is a former Técnico student (ADN Técnico), namely:

Instituto Superior Técnico participates in the 2nd edition of FIC.A

Instituto Superior Técnico presente na 2ª Edição do FIC.A

From 10 to 16 October, Técnico marked once again its presence in the largest science and technology festival in the country – FIC.A (International Science Festival). The event was attended by several professors, researchers, student groups and scholars, who shared their projects and knowledge with the visitors.

The first day brought together academic, scientific, technological, diplomatic, governmental and non-governmental entities from all corners of the country at the Hub-Act in Oeiras.

Técnico Alumni Mentoring Program 2022/23

May be an image of 6 people, people standing and text that says "TÉCNICO ALUMNI MENTORI GP" The most recent edition of the Técnico Alumni Mentoring Program 2022/23 started last Wednesday, October 19th, with a networking session that brought together more than 70 alumni and students.
The first words of the event were in charge of the Vice President of Técnico, Professor Pedro Amaral, who underlined the importance of the feeling of giveback to the alumni and their return to the alma mater.
Then, it was up to the coordinator of the Technology Transfer Office, Carla Patrocínio, to present the general lines of the program, and remember the history of these 4 editions, highlighting the novelty of this edition of including PhD students in the program.

Sofia Cabeleira, the coordinator of Técnico Alumni and an integral part of the program’s team, highlighted the program’s added value and invited mentor Miguel Guedes to share the «positive» experience for him, explaining that he remains in contact with students from previous editions. Witnessing the other side was Lourenço Duarte. Mentoring the 3rd edition, the Técnico student mentioned how the forms of contact – telephone, e-mail, face-to-face – can differ, as well as their frequency, without prejudice to the quality of mentoring.

This year, the program covered more than 145 former students and 156 students from the most varied courses, including PhD students, a novelty in this new edition. After this session, contact between mentors and mentees will continue, with students having the best possible guidance in making decisions about the various professional paths available to them.

Técnico student wins Kearney award

Estudante do Técnico vence prémio da Kearney

Diogo Antunes, student of Computer Science and Engineering, received the Kearney Class Excellence Award for his excellent academic performance in the Probability and Statistics curricular unit (CU), in the 2021/2022 academic year. At the ceremony, Diogo shared “this award is the recognition of my passion for mathematics”.

The Department of Mathematics (DM) was also distinguished during the ceremony. Professor José Mourão, Head of the DM, took the opportunity to stress the “emergence of big data and all the mathematical study that it involves”.

Técnico hosts a new edition of Talent Bootcamp

Técnico recebe nova edição de Talent Bootcamp
Técnico hosted a new edition of the Bootcamp Talent last Friday, October 14, at Salão Nobre. The event was attended by 185 students and recent graduates who heard repeatedly the words “focus”, “work” and “commitment”.

The Vice President of Técnico for Operations and Corporate Relationships, Pedro Amaral shared his experience as a former student and stressed that back then there were no such events. “This event allows Técnico students to show themselves in other ways so that they can be more than the image we have of them”.

Celfocus/Novabase rewards students work in Software Engineering

At the award ceremony, the Vice-president of Técnico for Operations and Corporate Relationships, professor Pedro Amaral, thanked the students, professors, and Celfocus/Novabase for the Merit Award in Software Engineering, stating “this is always a special moment for everyone involved, for Técnico, students, professors and the company that offers the award”.

Meeting of Student Groups Forum returns to in-person format

The 14th Meeting of Student Groups Forum took place last Thursday, 22nd September 2022. This initiative, which aims to bring together the Técnico Student Groups and Clubs that are part of the Forum, has not been held in-person for almost three years and was eagerly awaited.

Professor Pedro Amaral, Vice-president of Técnico For Operations and Corporate Relationships, congratulated the students for their work and highlighted the importance of the Student Groups, “the student groups and clubs are the heartbeat of the activities developed at Técnico. “We are responsible for the success of our institution and you are the sum of this success”.

No ano de 2022 a ULisboa, para além de consolidar o seu lugar entre as 300 melhores universidades do Mundo, subiu alguns indicadores como o número de artigos indexados no Science Citation Index-Expanded e no Social Science Citation Index e desempenho per capita.

European Innovation Academy 2022

After 12 days of intense work in this new edition of the EIA (European Innovation Academy – which takes place in Porto from the 17th of July to the 5th of August), more than 125 teams carried out their “Impossible Mission”: presenting ideas in 5 minutes per team.

Técnico students were once again irreproachable in the way they put themselves to work and contributed to the change in mentality necessary to transform ideas into new processes, products and services.

During this event, a meeting was also held, which brought together some of the main international universities to present and discuss best practices in education around entrepreneurship. According to Pedro Amaral, Vice-President for Business Connections, “the Global Entrepreneurship Education Summit is a very important experience that allows higher education institutions to accelerate to create a new generation of students with ambition for innovation, more capable of becoming adapt to the new challenges of society and able to think of ideas as starting points to build the sustainable solutions that the world so desperately needs”.

The EIA 2022, which since its inception has been supported by the Santander Foundation (a partner of Técnico, which supports our students in participating in this event) and the University of Berkeley, will now enter its last working week, the certainty that the formative experience will be transformative for the future lives of all those who were part of this great adventure.
