Two students from Técnico recognized by TagEnergy

Maria Alves Pedrosa, a Mechanical Engineering Master’s student, and Vanessa Yevdokymenko Filipe, a Master’s student in Energy Engineering and Management, were the big winners of the TagEnergy Women in Energy MSc scholarships.

On November 27th, TagEnergy, a company in the energy sector focusing on clean energy and energy transition, awarded two Técnico students with two TagEnergy Women in Energy MSc scholarships.

The ceremony began with Rogério Colaço highlighting the importance of scholarships like TagEnergy Women in Energy MSc in promoting greater gender equality. Franck Woitiez, CEO of TagEnergy, started by thanking Técnico, the entire team that made the initiative possible, and congratulating the winners. Franck Woitiez also emphasized the importance of these scholarships in promoting the effort and work of female students: “I believe in a society that gives the same rights, successes, and legitimacy to men and women. It’s not easy because engineering and the energy sector predominantly employ men, but at TagEnergy, we don’t think it’s impossible. On the other hand, it is crucial to have greater gender equality. This is an opportunity to support women, support talent, and help you change the world.”

The ceremony continued with the presentation of diplomas to the winners, Maria Alves Pedrosa, a Mechanical Engineering Master’s student, and Vanessa Yevdokymenko Filipe, a Master’s student in Energy Engineering and Management. The scholarship awarded to the two students will have a total value of 6,000 euros. The support will be divided between tuition fee assistance up to a thousand euros and the remaining amount divided into 10 monthly instalments.

Maria Pedrosa thanked for the recognition: “I would like to thank TagEnergy and Técnico for this opportunity. It is an honour to have been selected for this scholarship, as well as my colleague. I would like to emphasize that this is a very important initiative in promoting the role of women and young female engineers for a more balanced future. This scholarship will be very important for my master’s degree; I will be able to focus on my thesis, which is highly focused on clean energy, and invest more in my education,” she said.

Vanessa Filipe began by thanking those present for recognizing her effort and work. “I am very grateful for this scholarship. This is an initiative of extreme importance, as mentioned earlier. Fighting against gender inequality is extremely important. Energy transition is a significant challenge, and raising awareness in society is important for us to reach all stakeholders regarding our carbon footprint. I believe I can contribute as a professional to this mission,” she noted. The student also mentioned that the scholarship amount will allow her to invest in her education and further training in the field.
