Santander Innovators’ Challenge 2025 – Sustainable Campus

Are you into developing creative technological solutions?

The TecInnov Santander Innovators’ Challenge 2025 – Sustainable Campus is a competition that will challenge you to develop a project to solve problems in urban planning and sustainability.

Your team could be selected for funding and will have 6 months to build and test a solution to a problem in one of the thematic areas

Target audience

Teams composed primarily of members from Técnico academic community, such as students, professors and researchers.

Each team can submit an application/project.

Thematic Areas

In the Santander Innovators’ Challenge 2025 – TecInnov Sustainable Campus Edition, the proposals submitted must fall within the general theme of urban planning and sustainability, and may address the following topics

  • Rehabilitation of buildings on campus with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability solutions;
  • Sustainable art installations on campus, using recycled materials or solutions that promote environmental awareness;
  • Innovative technologies for efficient water, energy and waste management on campus;
  • Sustainable mobility infrastructures, promoting green transport in and around the campus;
  • Zero-energy buildings, using renewable energies and other mechanisms to achieve this goal.

Deadlines

The Santander Innovators’ Challenge 2025 – TecInnov Sustainable Campus will take place in accordance with the following deadlines:

  • Submission of applications – from 24 February 2025 to 15:00 on 24 March 2025;
  • Evaluation of applications/Pre-selection – from 25 March 2025 to 31 March 2025;
  • Summary presentation of each pre-selected application – 31 March 2025 to 7 April;
  • Announcement of results – by 8 April 2025;
  • Implementation of the Proofs of Concept – by 15 November 2025.

Support values

In the Santander Innovators’ Challenge 2025 – TecInnov Sustainable Campus, support will be granted up to a maximum of €7,500 (seven thousand five hundred euros) for each project selected.
The total amount available for the prizes is €25,000 (twenty-five thousand euros).

Jury

The Jury for the Santander Innovators’ Challenge 2025 – Sustainable Campus will be made up of 5 members:

  • 3 representatives of the Instituto Superior Técnico:
    – Miguel Amado, Técnico’s Vice-President for Sustainability and Infrastructures;
    – Paulo Ferrão head of Técnico’s Energy Initiative;
    – Rosalina Castro head of Técnico’s Sustainability Centre.
  • 2 representatives from the Santander Foundation, the competition’s partner organisation:
    – Pedro Andrade, Sponsorship Manager;
    – Francisca Matias, Entrepreneurial Manager.
